Town Explains Budget Overlap in $4.4 Million Sewer Enterprise Fund
Key Points
- $4.4 million approved for Sewer Enterprise Fund budget
- Officials clarified that a salary increase was due to a temporary leadership overlap
- New superintendent has been hired to replace the interim official
Voters approved the $4,429,142 Sewer Department budget, but only after town officials clarified a perceived spike in administrative salary costs. A resident questioned what appeared to be a $70,000 raise for the Sewer Superintendent, calling it a big raise.
Town Administrator Doug Lapp explained that the figure was artificially high
because it covers a transition period. The town has hired a new superintendent and is currently retaining the interim superintendent for a two-to-three-month training period to ensure a smooth handoff of operations. That is not for one person. A good chunk of that comes from some overlap that we're having during a transition period,
Lapp said.
Motion: To raise and appropriate $4,429,142 for the Sewer Enterprise Fund.
